A Decade Makes a Difference....

There are tons of retrospectives on 9/11/01, ready to read on 9/11/11.  What do they tell us?  Some thoughts are enduring.  The kindness of strangers follows the Golden Rule, no matter whether they shelter the massively displaced (Newfoundlanders housing thousands of stranded travelers on the day), or comfort one at a time (the rescue dogs at Ground Zero).  The hatred of a few fails against the love of the many, whether it be love of family, neighbors, countries.  The political, economic, cultural, and psychic jams we get ourselves wound into are of our doing, and wherever there's a maze, there's a solution.  And our best-laid plans can be rendered asunder by the skies of a hurricane or the rumble of an earthquake.  But we've stayed on this plane because we're adaptable, and a decade from 9/11/11, we've adapted, for better or worse, hopefully for the better.  Perhaps our most enduring trait is our optimism, rousing us out of our slumber, day after day after day.
