Reflections on a new year

Summer is meant for some new explorations, so we visited Silver City last week. It's a remote ghostly old mining town, save for a handful of full-time residents, deep in the Owyhee Mountains of southwestern Idaho. Some of the buildings, such as this Freemasons hall, are reputed to be haunted. The route to Silver City is dusty but gorgeous. It felt like we were staring at an infinite ocean looking down on the Snake River Valley floor, and of course this plain was once covered with water and teeming with prehistoric life. I felt very small next to all of this human and natural history!
