Canadian Studies in the U.S.: Why Do It?



Here's an article in today's New York Times that gives a good reason why political scientists are interested in Canada: it provides a "most similar systems" case for the comparative method, meaning that the dependent variable varies, while independent variables such as region and colonial past remain constant.  In Canada, on the referenced hot-button issues, decisions have been made, while in the U.S., they remain hot to the touch.  Why?  Here's the article.
