I may as well talk about our wine-tasting hobby!
My wife and I enjoy trying new wines, reds mostly, and I had the thought to blog a bit about our impressions. So here goes with our first of a quartet of new-to-us stuff.
Valle Dorado Carmenere, Curico Valley, Chile, 2008 ($9 at Bueno Cheapo Vino)
We didn't have a clue about carmenere, but it's potent! It slams you with some smoke initially, then moves into a berry and grit combo that goes pretty well with a 12-pack of Taco Bell tacos. We're not exactly highbrow with our pairings, but wine is meant to be enjoyed, not elevated.

Love a good carmenere! If you have never been, try Tuesday Night Flights @ the Grape Escape downtown. They do whites too, but it is always a wonderful tasting.
Fantastic idea, Brandie, thanks! We'll make it down there one of these Tuesday nights. I enjoy sampling all kinds of varietals. I hope you get some free moments when you're not on the road to sample as well....
